Calcium Phenates - Product Stewardship Summary
Afton aims to deliver technology solutions to its customers that have the desired characteristics in a competitive, cost-effective manner. These solutions are formulated products comprising several additive chemicals, each providing one or more performance attributes. A major class of lubricant additives is detergents. Calcium phenates are one such detergent additive used to aid in the control of deposit formation, reduce oil degradation and reduce wear. Calcium phenates are largely a colloidal material, where an alkylphenate surfactant stabilizes a calcium carbonate core within the hydrocarbon lubricant fluid. Effective use of these additives enables efficient equipment operation under the continuing industry and consumer trends of increased operational stress, longer application life, and reduced emissions, as well as aiding in more efficient fuel economy.
